From Corner Store to The Shipyard - James H.

James Hancock, Senior Accounting DirectorMy name is James Hancock and I am a senior accounting major at Berry College. Since my freshman year, I have had the pleasure of working with the Student Enterprises. Working with the Enterprises as the accounting director has been a great opportunity and a lot of fun. Since joining the team, I have had the privilege of working with many innovative and intelligent students as well as great mentors such as Milton Chambers and Dr. Kevin Renshler

Our team is always focused on bringing together ideas that can help highlight enterprise products and services. An example of this can be seen when our team recognized that the enterprises needed a stronger presence on campus to showcase our products, and market them to students, faculty, staff and the Rome community. To do this, we started the enterprise store in a corner of the bookstore last summer. This has been a strategic way to fulfill the campus presence need while also testing our capability to run a larger scale operation in the future. Ever since this time, the corner store has been a huge success and we have been able to successfully run the operations for itWe have also heard many positive reports from our consumers about having the new corner store location.

I am excited to be a part of the team that is going to build upon our prior corner store success by having the entire bookstore become a full-fledged student operated enterprise. The new campus store (“The Shipyard”), promises to bring a fresh new exciting look, while also being more focused on personalized Berry products. Additionally, the new store will be sure to have a stronger student perspective as it will have student voices in management. These new changes should help to revitalize our campus store into a place that all Berry College community members can be proud of. I am extremely thankful to be part of this monumental moment.
