Meet Our Crew!

Posted by Mea Acton on

Welcome to our store, we are The Shipyard! We are 1 of the 15 student run enterprises that operate through Berry College. Our goal as an enterprise is to give Berry students the opportunity to grow in their learning with hands on work that will help them build skills for their futures. Our student workers handle inventory, customer service, marketing strategies, and more! We want to encourage students to find a passion for something they love and give it their all to push for what they want. Our team is dedicated to providing positive experiences and high-quality products and service to all of our customers. Now, we would like to introduce ourselves to you! Meet our crew…

Our Captains:

Mea Acton – Student General Manager

Mea is a sophomore Marketing major with a minor in Creative Technologies from Helena, Alabama. She expects to graduate in 2023. “One thing that I want to take away from Berry and working in the Shipyard is the knowledge and experience to help further me in my dreams. The people skills and ability to communicate with others that I have learned from going to Berry will help me prosper in every aspect of my life. My dream job would be to run my own business and working at The Shipyard is the perfect job for that! I get to learn all of the ins and outs of a business and the level of work that it takes to keep a place running. I absolutely love my job and love my crew and am thankful for all that they do!”

Adam Fox – Co-Manager

Adam is a freshman Business Management and Marketing double major from Buford, Georgia. He is expected to graduate in 2024. “I hope to further develop my organizational leadership skills through gaining the experience of being part of the leadership team that runs a business. My dream job is more of a list, as I consider myself to be a multipotentiality, as explained in the TED Talk by the same name. I do however know that whatever career path I choose, or position I come to hold, that I hope to be able to leave the organization better off than when I found it or first arrived. My favorite part about working at The Shipyard is that it is a student-run enterprise, and therefore the team of students that work there are able to not only gain real-world experience of running a business, but also be part of guiding the course of shaping the business into something greater than it already is.

Our Crewmates:

Carson Gilliam – Sales Associate/Marketing Team Manager

Carson is a Senior Marketing major from Marietta, Georgia. She will be graduating in Spring 2021. “I hope to take away better entrepreneurial skills. Coming up with creative apparel designs, implementing marketing campaigns, and focusing on specialized customer service experience will set me up to do great in any future Marketing job, or may open the door for me to become an event planner or venue owner. My favorite part is getting to interact with customers daily, as well as watching students and faculty interact with the student enterprise products.”

Helaina Epps – Sales Associate

Helaina is a junior Business Management and Marketing double major from Marvin, North Carolina. She is expected to graduate in 2022. “My experiences at Berry will help me become more independent and I hope to gain experience working in a small business because I would like to own my own business. My favorite part about working at the shipyard is getting to meet new people!”

Josh Hurst – Sales Associate

Josh is a junior Music Education major from Cedartown, Georgia. He is expected to graduate in Fall 2022. “My dream job is to teach elementary school general music from kindergarten to 5th grade in my hometown. My favorite part about working at the shipyard is the work ethic everyone has.”

Gavin Booker – Sales Associate

Gavin is a junior Communications and Sports Administration double major from Hanover County, Virginia. He is expected to graduate in 2023. “I am hoping to gain some experience in the retail industry and get my feet wet in designing some products that I know our students and faculty will love. I love bringing new concepts to the table whether it be through t-shirt design or new product ideas. I want people to walk in here and not be able to decide between several products. That’s the goal.”

Reilly Thomas – Sales Associate

Reilly is a sophomore Biochemistry major from Rome, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. “I hope to form a connection with my peers at Berry and get experience working with a team in a professional, yet still fun, setting through working at the Shipyard. I hope to go to medical school and eventually become a doctor, so working on a team and learning how to be innovative and creative within a team is something I hope to take with me in the future. My favorite part about working at the Shipyard is whenever prospect students come in with their parents and I can talk to them about Berry, giving them a student insight into the Berry Bubble. The Shipyard is one of the first places prospect students go to gather an impression of Berry, so being able to offer a helpful and positive impact in their decision around Berry is what I look forward to most at work.”

Madison Letts – Sales Associate

Madison is a sophomore Marketing major with a minor in English and Psychology from Atlanta, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. “I would like to work in a marketing department for some firm and work up to being the CEO. I have made some really good friends at the shipyard and I look forward to coming to work because of it”

Will Dennard – Sales Associate

Will is a sophomore Business Management major with a Spanish minor from Flowery Branch, Georgia. He is expected to graduate in 2023. “I hope to gain the experience of how to run a business due to it being my major. The thing I like about working at the Shipyard is the people I work with. The people that work here are great.”

Chelsea McGovern - Sales Associate

Chelsea is a sophomore Animal Science major with a minor in chemistry from Sugar Hill, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. "After Berry, I hope to be able to go to Vet school! My favorite part about working at the Shipyard is all of the people I have met.

Trinity Lane – Sales Associate

Trinity is a sophomore Psychology major with a minor in Creative Writing from Memphis, Tennessee. She is expected to graduate in 2023. “Since we basically ran the store ourselves, I wanted to learn how to be independent. My dream job is to be a private practice psychologist, so I need to learn how to become my own boss. Everyone was very nice, so I’m glad that I got to know the staff.”

Caleb Dolan – Sales Associate

Caleb is a freshman Marketing major with an Entrepreneurship minor from Braselton, Georgia. He is expected to graduate in 2023. “Right now, I don't know what my dream job is, but I am hoping to build a good work ethic at Berry. I am also getting very good experience in business and customer service at the shipyard which will help me when I find the career that suits me. My favorite part of working at the shipyard is getting to meet a lot of students on campus. You get a unique opportunity at the shipyard to meet most students and get to help them on the daily.”

Courtney Collins – Sales Associate

Courtney is a freshman Spanish major with a business and TEFL minor from Carrolton Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. “I hope to gain experience and knowledge to help me be successful in whatever I end up doing in life. My favorite part about working at the Shipyard is interacting with all the people that come in and helping them find what they are looking for.”

Chloe Bar – Sales Associate

Chloe is a freshman Psychology major with an Art minor from Marietta, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2024. “I hope to take away a lot of work experience from this job. I am learning so many things about what it takes to run a store like the Shipyard. My favorite part about working at the Shipyard is the environment of the store. I think that this work environment is very calm and not high stress like some other jobs I've had.”

Karis Gehman - Sales Associate

Karis Gehman is a freshman Communications major on the public relations track with a creative writing minor from Fayetteville, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. “I hope to take away the practical public relations experience and creative approaches to communication and marketing. My favorite part about working at the Shipyard is being part of a team and an endeavor bigger than myself.”

Tomaiya Stafford - Accounting/Sales Associate

Tomaiya is a freshman Finance major with a social entrepreneurship minor from Newnan, Georgia. She is expected to graduate in 2023. "After Berry, I plan on having my own restaurant with a bakery included and multiple soup kitchens. I hope to leave Berry with a stronger knowledge in how to manage my restaurant and soup kitchens along with connections to community outreach opportunities. I decided to work a the Shipyard because I enjoy accounting, and this was a good way to get a head start on what I will be doing for my own business."

 AJ Zayas - Sales Associate

AJ is a freshman Music Business major with a minor in Spanish from Suwanee, Georgia. “I hope to be able to meet a lot of great people.
